Joanna, I really enjoyed reading your letter. I live 30ish minutes from the city and I miss it so much. Last year my friend visited and he also had never been to NYC before. He would probably tell you he had the same initial feeling about it. Once you begin to feel more comfortable and understand what NYC life is like it actually feels homey and becomes a great experience. There are ups and downs to everything and its amazing that you kept an open mind and explored. I am so jealous you were a part of the pillow fight- I read about it on the news! Sounds like you had a really nice visit.
Joanna, I moved up to NYC in January for my internship, and I really loved your letter. There are certainly aspects of the city that are not the most pleasant (Penn Station, in my mind, is disgusting). Yet the more you explore, and find those "hole-in-the-wall" places, it really becomes something to love. My friend was at the pillow fight too! She said it was a blast, and apparently it is a yearly occurrence. Yes, NYC is no Newark, DE!
It's funny how spending time with someone, or somewhere can make us view that something or someone differently than when we first meet them/it. You said when you first got to NYC you thought it was dirty and grimy, but when you left you said that you had a great time. It's funny what impressions do to people. Most of us shouldn't judge from first impressions, especially NYC. Like you were, people have to be there for a little bit of time before making a concrete decision about it. I, personally, love the city and the energy in it. Nice letter!
I always enjoy going to New York City. It is interesting to hear everyone's impressions and opinions about it. Sometimes people hate it while others love it. Everyone has different experiences and sees different things while in the city. New York is no Newark, you can go hundreds of times and see new things each time.
I really enjoyed your letter! I haven't been to New York City in years! I'm pretty sure the last time I went I was with my grandparents seeing Lion King on Broadway. Based off of your experience, I feel like the city will definitely be a lot cooler as a 21 year old :) Being able to go to a jazz bar sounds really cool! Also, the hummus place sounds to die for. Hummus is my new obsession and I can only imagine how great a restaurant devoted to it would be.
I really liked the way you wrote your letter with more language that we saw in our readings this week. I wrote my letter with more of present day language and expressions but you did a nice job of emulating this week's readings. I also enjoyed reading your letter in cursive, it made it seem more authentic, I wouldn't dare write mine in cursive, it would take me a hour! But really nice channeling the mind set of Britain at this time. I glad you enjoyed NYC more than you expected, it always nice when things presently surprise you.
